This photo shows off one of my favorite hobbies, my irises. These were two new ones I'd gotten earlier the year the photo was taken. I've transplanted them to my new house, and am waiting anxiously to see how they do. So far, looking good. They've got fine big leaves. When we moved, I also transplanted a number of irises that probably fall into the "heritage plants" category. I've never seen any others like them. The original garden from which mine came was planted in the 1930s.
I particularly like irises. They're easy to grow, multiply well, and how can you not like something named for the Goddess of the Rainbow? The plants behind the irises were hollyhocks, which I planted for my grandmother. They grew tall enough that she could see the flowers through the living room windows.
