The Super-Secret Recipe File: Rachel's mealworm banana bread

This is good for critters, and for small hominids, who enjoy eating "gross" foods.... Or for practical jokes on large hominids....

WORM PREPARATION:
You should be able to buy worms at a pet supply store. If not, try www.rainbowmealworms.com. 2 days before baking, feed the worms nothing but apples. Put a bunch of apples in there and they should devour them. The night before baking, put the worms in the freezer. When you're ready to start baking, take the worms and spread them out on a cookie sheet. Put them in the oven at about 350 for around 20 minutes. Keep checking on them. When they're getting brown, they're done.

Bread batter:

1/2 cup shortening       3/4 cup sugar
2 bananas, mashed       2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda       1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts       2 eggs
1/4 cup dry-roasted mealworms

Combine all ingredients. Bake in greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for about one hour.
