The Super-Secret Recipe File: Partan bree for Bree, from Shavon

"Partan" is the Scots word for Crab and "Bree" means liquid. This soup was traditionally a firm favourite with Scots fisher folk.

Conversion from metric measurements courtesy of

175g (roughly 6 ounces) rice       600ml (roughly 2.5 cups) milk
1 large crab, boiled       600ml (roughly 2.5 cups) stock
8 drops anchovy essence       8 drops Tabasco sauce
Pepper and salt       1 pinch of ground mace
Cayenne pepper to taste       450ml(scant 2 cups) single cream
